Capt. Michael Platt, commanding officer of Coast Guard Air Station Miami, is presented a Coast Guard Meritorious Service Medal by Rear Adm. Eric Jones, commander of Coast Guard 7th District Thursday, June 20, 2019 during a change of command where Platt was relieved as commanding officer by Capt. Shawn Koch. The change-of-command ceremony is a time-honored tradition. It represents a total transfer of responsibility, authority and accountability from one individual to another.
