JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (June 14, 2019) – Cmdr. Joshua Garland, an orthopedic surgeon at Naval Hospital Jacksonville, instructs Darnell-Cookman School of the Medical Arts students (Brittany Gordon, Jaylyn Loyd, and Mario Barrozo) in applying plates and screws to simulated fractured bones as part of the hospital’s Science, Service, Medicine and Mentoring program. The goal of S2M2 is to nurture students’ commitment to science and medicine in a welcoming and intellectually stimulating environment. The S2M2 partnership with Darnell-Cookman complements the school’s focus on equipping high-performing students with the skills and experiences to pursue advanced medical degrees.
