U.S. Marine Sgt. Victor Crespo, an infantry squad leader with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, finds the bearing of a natural landmark while setting up a defensive position during an amphibious assault exercise. Service members from several NATO countries participated in a joint amphibious assault on Saaremaa Island for Baltic Operations 2019. BALTOPS is an annual joint, multinational maritime-focused exercised. It is designed to improve training for participants, enhance flexibility and interoperability, and demonstrate resolve among allied and partner forces in defending the Baltic Sea region.
