Memorial dedicated to the memory of Lt. Gen. James Gavin, 82nd Airborne Division assault force commander, whose bravery secured a crucial objective during the Normandy invasion. The Iron Mike Ceremony is an annual ceremony immediately following the Commemorative Airborne Operation in Sainte-Mere-Eglise, France, June 9, 2019. The memorial, and the statue where it occured honors the 254 U.S. soldiers who were killed, and the 525 wounded during the Battle for La Fiere Bridgehead, June 6-9, 1944.
