A Marine, right, posts security with Japan Ground Self-Defense Force members during exercise Forest Light 12-2 here March 10. The purpose of Forest Light 12-2 is to enhance the interoperability of Marines and JGSDF members while increasing individual and unit readiness in a cold weather environment. The Marines are from 3rd Marine Logistics Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force and the JGSDF members are from 4th Infantry Regiment, 5th Brigade, JGSDF.
