Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, leads the singing of "Garry Owen" during unit ceremonies celebrating the 1st Battalion, 69th Infantry Regiment. The battalion, famous as the "Fighting 69th" of the Civil War, World War I and World War II service, has led the New York City St. Patrick's Day parade for more than 160 years. Dempsey is an honorary member of the unit.
