190608-N-MD802-1080 KIEL, Germany (June 8, 2019) Spanish Marines, assigned to 2º Batallon De Desembarco, Brigada De Infanteria De Marina (2nd Landing Battalion, Marine Infantry Brigade) embark on the Whidbey Island-class dock landing ship USS Fort McHenry (LSD 43) pierside on Naval Base Kiel-Tirpitzhafen, Germany in preparation for Exercise Baltic Operations (BALTOPS) 2019. BALTOPS is the premier annual maritime-focused exercise in the Baltic Region, marking the 47th year of one of the largest exercises in Northern Europe enhancing flexibility and interoperability among allied and partner nations.
