JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (May 13, 2019) – Eric Uveges, a physical therapist at Naval Branch Health Clinic Jacksonville, checks Electronics Technician 2nd Class Zachary Catrett’s neck mobility, as part of Naval Hospital Jacksonville’s integrated practice unit (IPU) for musculoskeletal care. NH Jacksonville launched the IPU as part of its value-based care initiative. Value-based care focuses on results that matter most to patients, from feeling healthy and having a sense of well-being, to being able to do daily activities and fulfill life roles at work and home. Uveges, a native of Baltimore, Maryland, says, “The IPU offers patients direct access to physical therapy, to assess and treat a variety of musculoskeletal conditions (such as low back pain and acute joint injuries) without a physician referral. This has been shown to improve patients’ access to care, increase the speed of treatment, and avoid unnecessary imaging and provider visits. We collaborate among physical therapists, primary care providers, orthopedics, and sports medicine, to offer the very best care to our sailors.” (U.S. Navy photo by Jacob Sippel, Naval Hospital Jacksonville/Released).
