U.S. Navy Sailors on board the USS Roosevelt (DDG-80), an Arleigh-Burke class destroyer, man the rails as the ship arrives in the Port of Cherbourg, France. Roosevelt is taking part in the 75th anniversary of D-Day operations. Roosevelt Sailors join the more than 1,300 U.S. service members, partnered with 950 troops from across Europe and Canada, to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Operation Overlord, the Allied invasion of Normandy. This is the first ship named in honor of both Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the 32nd President of the United States and First Lady, Eleanor Roosevelt. Currently homeported at Naval Station Mayport the Roosevelt was operating in U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa/U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations and participated in exercise Formidable Shield 2019.
