190520-N-KW492-1408 ARABIAN SEA (May 20, 2019) U.S. Marine Maj. Joseph Swindell, an AV-8B Harrier pilot with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), inspects a GBU-54 joint direct attack munition bomb during pre-flight checks on the flight deck of the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD 3). Kearsarge is the flagship for the Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group (ARG). The Kearsarge ARG, along with the embarked 22nd MEU, is prepared to respond to contingencies and to defend U.S. forces and interests in the region.
