Staff Sgt. Jeffrey S. Ray, the Personal Security Detail team chief for Headquarters and Service Company, 2nd Marine Logistics Group (Forward), receives the 2012 Kallstrom Bravery Award during the 2011 Seniors Leaders Security Conference Awards Banquet held at MCRD San Diego, Calif., March 7. Ray received the award for his actions while serving as the PSD team leader, convoy commander and personal security officer of the 2nd MLG commanding general during his yearlong deployment to Afghanistan. Throughout the deployment, he was responsible for the safety, security and logistical needs of the commanding general. On multiple occasions, Ray responded to distress calls from NATO troops pinned down by enemy fire. He was also cited for exposing himself to heavy enemy fire, on more than one occasion, when his element came under attack. The Kallstrom awards, one for leadership and the other for bravery, are designed to recognize military police officers for their dedication to duty while serving in the Marine Corps on active duty.
