Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy Rick West answers a question during an all-hands call aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Bataan (LHD 5) after the announcement of the 21st Century Sailor and Marine Initiative designed to maximize sailor and Marine Corps readiness, resiliency and combat effectiveness. The initiative incorporates objectives, policies and programs to emphasize safety, alcohol deglamorization, zero tolerance drug use, suicide reduction, family and personal preparedness, and financial and family stability to prepare sailors, Marines and their families for challenges they may face and to reinforce healthy alternatives while off-duty.
