Senior Airman Samantha Thompson, 628th Medical Operations Squadron family health medical technician, places a blood pressure cuff onto a simulated patient May 7, 2019, at Joint Base Charleston’s 628th Medical Group. “It is all about the patients for me,” said Thompson. “I am currently enrolled in nursing school, so getting this hands-on experience is providing me the training I need for my future.” Joint Base Charleston is celebrating Nurse’s Week May 6-12 in lieu of National Nurse’s Day May 12. In January 1974, May 12 was chosen to celebrate the day as it is the anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing.
