Linda Thomas-Greenfield, right, the outgoing U.S. ambassador to Liberia, speaks with U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Charles Hooper, director, J5, Strategic Planning and Policy, United States Africa Command, following the 55th annual Liberian Armed Forces Day parade at Barclay Training Center here Feb. 11. Thomas-Greenfield delivered the keynote address at the parade, in which she encouraged the Armed Forces of Liberia to continue to progress in training and understanding of military doctrine and procedures. She also announced the establishment of a U.S. government-backed training initiative to ensure continued engineering training within the AFL. The parade and military skills demonstration capped off a week of Armed Forces Day activities, which included a street cleanup and medical outreach, church services, an intra-AFL soccer match, a symposium regarding the AFL and a military ball. Following the ambassador’s remarks, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia presented Thomas-Greenfield the Distinguished Service Order on behalf of the people of Liberia.
