Carl "Chubby" Proffitt is awarded the French Legion of Honor Feb. 20 during a ceremony at American Legion Post 74 near Charlottesville, Va., in front of friends, family and members of the 116th Brigade Combat Team. Proffitt was bestowed the honor for his actions during the Normandy invasion that liberated France from German control during WWII. Proffitt served with the 116th Infantry Regiment, now designated the 116th BCT.
