Lt. Col. Alejandro Gomez, 9th Expeditionary Bomb Squadron mission team lead and native of Aledo, Texas, walks towards a B-1 prior to take-off at an undisclosed location in Southwest Asia, Feb. 26, 2012. The B-1, or “Bone” as it is affectionately known, was initially developed in the 1970s as a strategic bomber and as a replacement to the B-52 Stratofortress. The B-1’s historic 10,000th combat mission was performed in support of ground forces in Afghanistan.
