Cole, the last surviving member of the Doolittle Raid, while attending a piano burn in the veteran’s honor at Ellsworth Air Force Base, S.D., April 18, 2019. Cole, who died on April 9, was remembered during an Ellsworth AFB event commemorating the 77th anniversary of the Doolittle Raid. The raid took place during World War II and was a retaliatory attack on the Japanese following the devastation of Pearl Harbor, Honolulu, in 1941.
