A U.S. service member detains a simulated attacker after being sprayed in the eyes with oleoresin capsicum, or pepper spray, at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan, April 19, 2019. Marines and Sailors were sprayed as a graduation requirement for the air station’s yearly Security Augmentation Force (SAF) training. SAF personnel can be activated during periods of elevated force protection conditions, other emergency/increased threat situations or special events to perform additional security functions alongside military and civilian police.
