190413-N-IK959-4409 NASHVILLE, (April 13, 2019) – Vanderbilt University Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) commanding officer and Professor of Naval Science, Capt. Donald May, congratulates and presents Cocke County (Tennessee) High School Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) Cadet Cmdr. David Griffin, with the overall championship trophy for his unit winning the 2019 Vanderbilt University NJROTC/MCROTC Drill Competition the university’s Recreation and Wellness Center on campus here, April 13. More than 250 cadets from six Navy and four Marine Corps JROTC units in Tennessee, Kentucky and Arkansas participated in the one-day drill and athletic event. Midshipmen from the Vanderbilt University NROTC unit coordinated the event and provided judging and support. Vanderbilt’s NROTC Midshipman 3rd Class Arturo Herrera (left), 19, from Reading, Pennsylvania, and a sophomore at Vanderbilt and U. S. Marine Corps Gunnery Sgt.
