PEARL HARBOR, HI (11 April 2019) - Cmdr. R. Corey Cherrett, commanding officer of the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC), presents a motorcycle vest to Mr. Bob Falvey, Lt. Col. USAF (Ret.), civilian director of JTWC. Mr. Falvey previously worked at JTWC in Guam as a Typhoon Duty Officer when he was a junior officer in the Air Force. He returned to JTWC in 2006 as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force, the last of JTWC's Air Force directors, and then transitioned to be JTWC's civilian director. As director, he guided JTWC through 13 years of increasingly accurate tropical cyclone forecasts, research to operations development, and liased with the World Meteorological Organization, university and federal scientists, and Navy and Air Force meteorology personnel. Mr. Falvey is transferring to the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) in Asheville, NC, where he will serve as the Climate Operations Flight Director.
