Mark Becker, archeologist, Camp Pendleton Environmental Security, Marine Corps Installations West, Marine Corps Base (MCB) Camp Pendleton, demonstrates how ancient Native American tribes made tools out of obsidian, at the 2019 Camp Pendleton Earth Day event at Mainside Marine Corps Exchange, MCB Camp Pendleton, April 17, 2019. This year’s event focused on the history behind Marine Corps environmental stewardship efforts and provided environmental education relating to energy efficiency, natural and cultural resources management, and recycling. One of the highlights of the event was the Environmental SNIPER program, which encompasses preservation efforts of training areas on the installation. Environmental SNIPER stands for: stop pollution, navigate solutions, integrate operations, protect resources, ensure compliance and restore the installation. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl.
