PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – (April 10, 2019) Lt. Rebecca Dolce of Naples, Fla., a diversity program manager assigned to Navy Recruiting Command (NRC), joined by Rear Adm. Keith Jones (left) of Ferriday, La., deputy commander, Naval Supply Systems Command, and Lt. Willie Collins of Houston, a medical officer programs recruiter assigned to Navy Recruiting District (NRD) Houston, speaks with midshipmen and students of Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) about leadership development at the Willie A. Tempton, Sr. Memorial Student Center on the university’s campus during Navy Visibility Day. Navy Visibility Day is a Navy Recruiting Command (NRC) proprietary recruitment program built specifically for the purpose of attracting the brightest, diverse college prospects, and showcasing opportunities for both military and civilian careers. Its purpose is the build and sustain strategic networks with universities and colleges while promoting Navy awareness within a diverse and under-represented community. Navy Visibility Day offers a Lean Six Sigma Workshop, Career Expo, Panel Discussion, and the Navy’s Virtual Reality Experience, the NIMITZ. PVAMU possesses one of the most historical units due to it being the first Navy Reserve Officer Training Corps unit to be established at a Historically Black College and University (HBCU). The unit is currently commemorating its 50th Anniversary. The program has produced three Navy flag officers: Vice Adm. David Brewer III (1970), Rear Adm. Osie V. Combs, Jr. (1971), and Rear Adm Kelvin Dixon (1981). The Houston Consortium, commanded by Capt. Timothy Symons of Chevy Chase, Md., is comprised of two units: Prairie View A&M University Unit, and the Rice University Unit, which consists of University of Houston, Houston Baptist University, and Texas Southern University. NRC consists of a command headquarters, three navy recruiting regions, 18 Navy recruiting districts and eight Navy talent acquisition groups that serve more than 1,300 recruiting stations across the world.
