Pakistani army Maj. Gen. Muhammad Khalid, the United Nations Mission in Liberia force commander, delivers the keynote address in a symposium as part of the pre-celebration events surrounding the 55th annual Armed Forces Day at Monrovia City Hall, Feb. 8. The theme for the symposium was “Enhancing military capabilities and professionalism: Prospects and challenges facing the armed forces of Liberia in a democratic Liberia.” Following Khalid’s remarks, a select group of Liberians participated in a panel discussion and audience interaction. Other events surrounding Armed Forces Day celebrations include a street clean up and medical outreach, a friendly football match among AFL soldiers, church services and a culminating series of events, Sat., Feb. 11 which include a parade, a military skills demonstration and a military ball.
