Joshua Caudill, HHC Mortars, 2-162 Infantry, Oregon Army National Guard, prepares to "hang" an 81 mm mortar round while a Royal Thai Army soldier assumes the proper position on top of the mortar base plate to help ensure a stable platform for the weapon at a live-fire range near Phu Lam Yai, Thailand, during Exercise Cobra Gold 2012. This year marks the first time in the 31-year history of Cobra Gold that an Army National Guard battalion has participated in the multinational combined-arms exercise.
