190313-N-IK871-1053 U.S. 5TH FLEET AREA OF OPERATIONS (March 13, 2019) Chief Machinist Mate Aaron T. Richter takes a photo with Chief Gas Turbine Systems Technician (Mechanical) Gil Ryerson and Chief Boatswain's Mate Kenneth G. Midland in the cockpit of a landing craft, air cushion attached to Assault Craft Unit 4 embarked aboard the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD 3) during an amphibious exercise. Kearsarge is the flagship for the Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group and, with the embarked 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, is deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
