Sgt. Ryan Hoffmann(left) and Spc. Mason Russell(right) of the 195th Forward Support Company (Airborne) prepare a sandbag for an airlift along the Platte River. "This is what we signed up to do," Hoffmann said. "I didn't really think about it. I just volunteered to help."
As flood waters rise along the Platte River, Nebraska National Guard Soldiers of Company G, 2-104th General Support Aviation Battalion and the 195th Forward Support Company (Airborne) began rigging operations. Soldiers used vertical lift sandbags and conducting hookup operations early Saturday morning, along the river to prevent the flood waters from reaching a critical water pump house on March 16, 2019, in Ashland, Nebraska. The sandbags were filled, sling loaded and then emplaced in position. Nebraska has experienced historic flooding along all its major rivers; displacing hundreds of people and causing millions of dollars in damages to homes, farmland, and cities.
