Marine Cpl. Haley Mathers poses for a photo at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle, Virginia on March 8, 2019. Mathers was meritoriously promoted for out-performing six other Marines on a physical fitness test, a rigorous uniform inspection and an interview panel of senior Marines who assessed that she was ready to take on more responsibility. As a tribute to 101 years of women serving in the Marine Corps, the ceremony was held in front of a replica of the Molly Marine statue, the first monument of a female in a service uniform and tribute to the first female Marines.
