Afghan National Army Sgt. Kabir, an infantryman with 2nd Kandak, 1st Brigade, 215th Corps, examines his target while calibrating his weapon under the watch of U.S. Marines with the 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment Embedded Training Team, during an ANA noncommissioned officer academy here, Jan. 25. Sgt. Joshua Watson, the ETT platoon sergeant, said the academy— the first-ever in Garmsir district — gave the Afghan NCOs an opportunity to develop their leadership skills based on the Marines’ guidance on “how to set the standard.” The Marines prepared their Afghan counterparts to lead physical training sessions, to account for and properly pack their gear, and conducted weapons handling and calibration exercises.
