    31st Marine Expeditionary Unit       

    Lt. Col. Christopher Johnson, the commanding officer of Combat Logistics Battalion 31, serves food during a “Steel Beach” atop the flight deck of the dock landing ship USS Ashland (LSD 48), Philippine Sea, March 2, 2019. Johnson, a native of Arlington, Virginia, is a 2001 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. CLB-31 provides security, logistics, and transportation as the Logistics Combat Element for the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit. The “Steel Beach” was an opportunity for the Marines and Sailors of the 31st MEU and the crew of the Ashland to build camaraderie and take a breather during operations. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU partnering with the Wasp Amphibious Ready Group provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premier crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.
