HONOLULU, Hawaii (Feb. 9, 2019) -- Honolulu District employee volunteers gather and sort student test sheets during the 2019 MATHCOUNTS Oahu competition held at the Kamehameha Schools. Sixth, seventh and eighth grade students from 27 Oahu public and private schools participated in the competition. MATHCOUNTS builds skills, promotes strategic problem solving and challenges students to sharpen their analytical abilities in a lively exchange of mathematical ideas through competition. Honolulu District has actively supported the MATHCOUNTS program since 1997 and provided volunteer "engineer" manpower for the events. The winners of the Feb. 9 competition advance to the state level competition March 9 at Kamehameha Schools where District employees will again be volunteering their time as proctors and scorers for the MATHCOUNTS state competition.
