Army reservist Sgt. 1st Class Kenneth McLean helps his 8-year-old daughter, MarKayla, affix second lieutenant rank to the patrol cap of his wife, newly promoted 2nd Lt. Erica McLean, also an Army reservist, at North Chapel on Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash., Jan. 13, during a direct commissioning ceremony for McLean, in which she traded in her staff sergeant stripes for officer rank. McLean's mother and siblings traveled from across the U.S. just to witness her entry into the Army officer corps.
