U.S. Marine Gunnery Sgt. Anthony Battles, a reconnaissance Marine with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, Maritime Raid Force, clears a stairwell during a visit, board, search and seizure casualty drill. The Maritime Raid Force practiced boarding and clearing a non-compliant vessel while sustaining a casualty. The Marines proceeded to stabilize and evacuate the casualty off of the ship. Marines and Sailors with the 22nd MEU and Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group are currently deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
