Staff Sgt. Michael A. Dubois, of Gaithersburg, Md., receives the Purple Heart award from Brig. Gen. Jeffery Sinclair, the 82nd Airborne Division's deputy commander for support, during a ceremony at Forward Operating Base Spin Boldak, Afghanistan, Jan. 10. A fire support specialist with the 2nd Squadron, 38th Cavalry Regiment, 504th Battlefield Surveillance Brigade, from Fort Hood, Texas, Dubois received the award for injuries sustained during combat operations in Afghanistan's southern Kandahar province July 16 when the vehicle he was riding in struck an improvised explosive device, killing a soldier fellow soldier in the process.
