Pence was visiting ANC for the NASA Day of Remembrance, where he laid a wreath at the graves of Apollo 1 crew members, U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Virgil Grissom and U.S. Navy Lt. Cmdr. Roger Chaffee. Also present for the wreath-laying were family and friends of those who died in the Challenger and Columbia accidents, as well as several astronauts and former NASA Administrators. This annual event pays tribute “to the crews of Apollo 1 and space shuttles Challenger and Columbia, as well as other NASA colleagues who lost their lives while furthering the cause of exploration and discovery,” according to NASA.
