A contingent of Marines, soldiers, airmen and sailors from U.S. European Command, U.S. Africa Command, Marine Forces Europe and Marine Forces Africa stop in a hangar during a tour, Jan 6, 2012. The hangar, originally built by the Germans during World War II, is now part of the Marine Corps Pre-positioning Program - Norway and houses equipment ready to be dispatched quickly to anywhere in Europe or Africa to support the missions of U.S. forces or partner nations. The service members were visiting Vaernes Garrison near Trondheim, Norway, to familiarize themselves with how the MCPP-N program works and how it can support future operations and exercises.
“The Marine Corps, with the help of our Norwegian partners, has worked hard to ensure that the equipment stored in this facility is not a relic of the Cold War, but responds directly to today’s security and crisis response needs,” said U.S. Ambassador to Norway Barry B. White
