Raking light makes headstones glow like gold ingots at Camp Nelson National Cemetery near Nicholasville, Ky., Jan. 28, 2019. During the Civil War, Camp Nelson was home to a 700-bed Union Army hospital, numerous shops for blacksmith work and the construction of wagons and ambulances, artillery storage, and an enlistment station for African-American soldiers. The cemetery currently is home to thousands of U.S. military internments dating from the 1860s to the modern day, including veterans of the Kentucky Air National Guard.
