U.S. Army Reserve Staff Sgt. Vincent Schimke, an instructor for Operation Cold Steel III, watches Sgt. Carlos Rodriguez, a human resource specialist with the 561st Regional Support Group, based in Elkhorn, Neb., disassemble a M2 .50 caliber machine gun during Operation Cold Steel III training at Fort Hunter Liggett, Calif on February 7, 2019. Soldiers must learn how to disassemble and perform maintenance on weapons to keep them functioning during combat operations. Operation Cold Steel III trains and qualifies Army Reserve Soldiers on M2 .50 caliber machine guns, M19 40 mm automatic grenade launchers and M240 7.62 mm machine guns weapons systems in ground and mounted military vehicles, in order to provide lethal and combat ready units ready to deploy anywhere in the world.
