22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit

190204-M-YD783-0029 USS KEARSARGE (Feb. 4, 2019) U.S Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Phillip Boni, a flight line collateral duty quality assurance representative with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit performs maintenance on the prop rotor gear box of an MV-22 Osprey in the hanger bay of the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD 3). Flight line Marines with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 264 (Reinforced) routinely perform maintenance on their aircrafts to ensure the vessels will be ready to fly when called upon. Marines and Sailors with the 22nd MEU and Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group are deployed to the 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
