Warrant Officer Shaun Wheeler, petroleum systems technician, 289th Composite Supply Company, 553rd Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division Sustainment Brigade, is a fuel expert. His responsibilities, to name a few, include the storage, distribution, and quality assurance needed to enable Soldiers and units to sustain the fight and win. "My job is to ensure the company meets its requirement to deliver quality clean fuel to maneuver units, FSCs (Forward Support Company), and BSBs (Brigade Support Battalion), said Wheeler. He stands, on site, at the Fuel System Supply Point (FSSP), where he leads a team of petroleum supply specialists, during Pegasus Forge IV, a large-scale combat operation training exercise on Fort Hood, TX. During the week-long exercise, Wheeler and his team, will support thousands of soldiers with fuel supply and distribution to insure their training meets readiness objectives for future training and real-world operations. The FSSP can store more than 120-thousand gallons of fuel and will distribute about 282-thousand gallons during the exercise. "Our Soldiers, from a sustainment perspective, they are getting some training out here right now to be able to construct massive fuel systems if they need to," said Wheeler. "They're getting some hands-on training, which will allow them to meet any requirements that's dropped from the brigades or division and battalion," said, Wheeler. The FSSP can store more than 120-thousand gallons of fuel and will distribute about 282-thousand gallons during the exercise. Wheeler added, "They are going to be able to meet that requirement, that fuel consumption rate, that storage capacity and the inventory levels that they need to maintain and push forward to units downrange to them fueled for the fight."
