U.S. 5TH FLEET AREA OF OPERATIONS (Jan. 16, 2019) U.S. Marine Cpl. Michael Chiarappa, center, a chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) defense specialist with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), monitors a spectroscopic radiation detector for traces of radiation during a subject matter expert exchange. This U.S. Central Command-sponsored event aimed to improve tactics and planning of CBRN unit support to forces and civil authorities and included the Bahrain Defence Force, Naval Amphibious Force, Task Force 51/5th Marine Expeditionary Brigade, 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit and Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force-Crisis Response-Central Command.
