A U.S. Navy sailor reflect on the accomplishments of the service member who served in the 100th Infantry Battalion at a memorial statue outside of the Fort DeRussy beach park before the start of the Congressional Gold Medal parade Dec. 17, in Waikiki, Hawaii. World War II, Nisei veterans of the 100th Infantry Battalion, 442nd regimental combat team, and Military Intelligence Service were honored for their service with a parade as recipients of the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest civilian award bestowed by U.S. Congress. Their courage on the battlefield earned them the distinction of being the most highly decorated unit of its size in American military history.
