U.S. Rep. Ken Calvert, of California's 42nd District, and U.S. Army Maj. Gen. David S. Baldwin, Adjutant General of the California Military Department, cut a ribbon, Aug. 29, 2018, during the department's UH-60M Black Hawk helicopter unveiling ceremony at March Air Reserve Base, California. The California Army National Guard's 1st Air Assault Battalion, 140th Aviation Regiment, based at Joint Forces Training Base, Los Alamitos, California, is currently receiving new helicopters to replace the older UH-60L models they have flown for years. Greater lift capacity and cockpit instrumentation improvements are two aspects of the M model that crews say will make them safer when fighting wildfires or flying other missions in California and abroad.
