America’s First Corps Commanding General, Lt. Gen. Gary Volesky, presents a coin to Master Sgt. Masatoshi Saito, Japan Northern Army, during Yama Sakura 75 at Camp Higashi-Chitose, Hokkaido, Japan, Dec. 13, 2018. Volesky and the Japan Northern Army Commanding General, Lt. Gen. Masato Taura, plan to recognize Soldiers from both Armies daily in a Hero of the Battle ceremony for their contributions to the exercise. Yama Sakura is a bilateral event that strengthens the alliance between the U.S. Army and the Japan Ground Self Defense Force.
