Approximately 50 Soldiers from the South Carolina Army National Guard, 678th Air Defense Artillery Brigade return home to airports across the state Dec. 8, 2018, from a nine-month deployment to Germany in support of air defense operations for the 10th Army Air Missile Defense Command and U.S. Army Europe (USAREUR). While deployed, the unit was responsible for setting up the first air defense brigade in the European theater since the stand-down of the cold war. USAREUR forces serve a critical role in advancing U.S. interests and provide a visible symbol of the U.S. commitment to the European regional allies. Including pre- and post-deployment training the Soldiers were mobilized for nearly one year. (U.S. Army National Guard photo by Capt. Jessica Donnelly, South Carolina National Guard)
