Rachel Rowe, a clinic manager at BHC Oceana, helped boost BHC Oceana’s Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set metrics to 57, which is 11 percent above the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery’s (BUMED) target benchmark. She currently supervises more than 60 staff, including 20 providers, 14 nurses, 13 medical assistants and 17 corpsmen. Leading by example, she encourages her staff members to make suggestions and considers them part of the solution which fosters a culture of open communication. Her adeptness in managing the clinic’s provider templates and distribution of enrollments has facilitated outstanding access to care, meeting the new standards of the Defense Health Agency, while improving staff morale. Her keen awareness for patient safety and attention to detail has led to a significant improvement in clinical practice. Rowe’s ability to rise to every challenge extends beyond herself to positively influence the Primary Care Directorate.
