The Hampton Roads Naval Museum’s gallery contains the ship’s bell from the USS Breese (DD 122). She was a Wickes-class destroyer that was launched in May of 1918. She was re-classified as a light minelayer in January of 1931. She was present on the morning of December 7, 1941 during the Japanese attacks on Pearl Harbor. She was moored in berth D-3, in the harbor’s middle loch in the northwest vicinity of Ford Island; and did not sustain any damage during the attack. She would serve throughout World War II and earned ten battle stars during the war; she was decommissioned in 1946. (US Navy Photo by Max Lonzanida/Released
