Honoring those who gave all: Remembrance Sunday in Africa

The grave of Royal Canadian Air Force Pilot Officer Lawrence Maguire, originally from Orange, N.J., who died during World War II and was laid to rest at the Djibouti New European Cemetary here, is adorned with a poppy flower in honor of Remembrance Sunday, Nov. 13. Maguire was the only American of 13 men honored who served in the British, Canadian and Australian forces and died in World War II. During a mission July 15, 1942, Maguire and his crew did not return to base. He was 21 years old when he joined the RCAF in Ottawa, Canada, and 23 years old when he died. He is buried next to his fellow aircrew members.
