181106-N-IY469-021 – Lt. Cmdr. Christilene Whalen, resident chaplain, leads a prayer during the Peace and Unity Prayer Service. “Before we pray for peace and unity, let us for a moment center on what peace is and what unity is,” Whalen said. “Peace is not the absence of conflict, war or trouble, but it is the presence of justice and the ability to handle and cope with our troubles and our differences and the assurance of God’s supernatural intervention in the midst of our lives. Unity is not uniformity or everyone thinking, dressing and being the same or identical, but it is the ability to agree and to agree to disagree while respecting and honoring the integrity and the differences of our brothers and sisters all over the world.”
