The Hampton Roads Naval Museum had the opportunity to welcome US Navy Veterans who were visiting Nauticus and the USS Wisconsin (BB-64) this afternoon. Pictured is Rick Heaston, who was a Lieutenant aboard the USS Willis A. Lee (DL-4) from 1967-1968. Heaston had the opportunity to exchange stories and wartime experiences with Museum Educator, Joseph Miechle, and volunteers Russ Martin and Bill Murray. Heaston also received a Vietnam War Commemoration Pin for his service during that time period. Heaston and several other US Navy veterans were part of the Destroyer Leader Association, which was hosting its 22nd Annual Reunion at nearby Virginia Beach, Virginia. The Destroyer Leader Association consists of former US Navy crewmembers from the USS Norfolk (DL-1), USS Mitscher (DL-2/DDG-35), USS John S. McCain (DL-3/DDG-36), USS Willis A. Lee (DL-4) and the USS Wilkinson (DL-5). The ships were part of the Mitscher-Class of Destroyer Leaders, which were in service from 1953 through 1978. (US Navy Photo by Max Lonzanida/Released)
