With Veterans Day around the corner, one Marine has taken it upon himself to make sure credit is given to wounded warriors. Gunnery Sgt. James J. Dacey, company gunnery sergeant for Support Company, 8th Engineer Support Battalion, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, left the National Museum of the Marine Corps and continued on his run to National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Md., Nov. 9.
Dacey began his run, Oct. 22, and plans to cover 345 miles by Nov. 11 to help raise awareness of the Wounded Warrior Project.

“I wanted to do something for all the service members,” Dacey said. “I wanted to give something to those who have been through things I couldn’t even imagine.”

Since his journey began Dacey has run an average of 17 to 20 miles per day.

“Once he gets running he just keeps on going,” said Debbie Melamed, Dacey’s mother and safety driver for the run. “He has to stop himself or else he’ll get to Bethesda before Veterans Day.”

Dacey plans on visiting and having lunch with wounded warriors once he gets to Bethesda.
